Getting Clark Tire Rolling With a New TPO Roof

When it comes time to replace your business’s roof, A.O. Roofing Services is here to help.

When Clark Tire in Winter Garden needed to replace their old, leaky modified bitumen roof, they knew to call A.O. Roofing for a replacement. We installed them a brand new 6,000 sq ft 60mil TPO roof. Check out the before and after pictures below!

Modified bitumen was once the most popular roofing system for flat and low-slope roofs, particularly for commercial buildings. It uses a sturdy but flexible asphalt membrane that is reinforced with polymerized rubber or fiberglass. This makes it durable and easy to work with. However, modified bitumen roofs absorb a lot of heat, can be expensive to install and maintain, and are prone to pooling water. Plus, leaks are harder to locate and identify for modified bitumen roofs compared to other roofing systems.

Enter the new gold standard, TPO. Short for Thermoplastic PolyOlefin, TPO is a somewhat newer material first introduced in the 90s, which is now the most common roofing material for commercial buildings. It’s installed in single-ply sheets that are heat welded to create a watertight seal. TPO is great for hot and sunny Florida because they reflect up to 87% of UV rays, helping keep the building cool and reduce energy costs. This also makes them perfect for Cool Roofs. When properly maintained, they can last up to 30 years, compared to only 20 for modified bitumen.

So, it’s no surprise that when it came time for a replacement, Clark Tire elected to go with TPO. We went in, tore off the old modified bitumen, and put in the new TPO, along with a 1-inch insulation layer. We wasted no time getting this project complete, and it took us only two days from start to finish. Now, Clark Tire has a new, sturdy roof that will keep their building cool and last for decades to come.
