Thermoplastic polyolefin, or TPO, is one of the most popular materials used in roofing. TPO is a white roofing membrane made from synthetic rubber and additives that is extremely popular in sunny locations because it resists ozone rays and heat. It also has a slippery surface that repels moisture, rain, and snow. It’s factors like this we consider when determining the best options for our clients. In climates like Florida’s, with very warm and damp weather, being mindful of the products you use during the initial phases of building can save you thousands of dollars later.
TPO’s durability and elasticity make it a great option for this recent reroof project that we just wrapped up at the gymnasium at Warner University in Lake Wales. This was a good sized re-roof, consisting of 20,500 square feet.
We removed the old modified bitumen roof and installed 60 mil TPO in just two weeks. This was a pretty standard reroof project, and the process from beginning to end ran smoothly. We just worked on another roofing project at Warner’s Williams Hall, using Atlas shingles for the 20,000-square-foot residence hall. You can find more details here.
